Clinton promises to release Wall Street transcripts if opponents do the same

Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton on Sunday said she would be willing to release the texts of speeches she gave to big banks if other politicians running in the race release their behind-closed-doors transcripts.

{mosads}“Let everybody who’s ever given a speech to any private group under any circumstances release them,” Clinton said on ABC’s “This Week.” “We’ll all release them at the same time.”

“You know, I don’t mind being the subject in the Republican debates, the subject in the Democratic primary,” she added. “That kind of goes with the territory – I’ve been around long enough.”

“But sometimes, you know, these rules need to apply to everybody.”

She said a “bunch” of her opponents in the White House race have given speeches to high-profile groups.

“Let – if this is now going to be a new standard so then it should apply to everybody, and then I’ll be happy to look into it further,” she said.

Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, have racked up $153 million in speaker fees since 2001, including from financial firms like Goldman Sachs and UBS.

The former first lady said at the Democratic primary debate last week that she would “look into” releasing the transcripts.
