Huckabee: Speaker Ryan should reject Syrian refugees or resign

GOP presidential candidate and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee on Monday called on Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) to oppose Syrian refugees from entering the United States or resign from his leadership post.

His comments came in the wake of Friday evening’s deadly terror attacks in Paris.

Huckabee tweeted:

{mosads}In a Monday press release, Huckabee blasted President Obama for his response to the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and then turned his attention to Ryan’s leadership and how he should handle foreign policy.

“And in the GOP, Speaker Ryan needs to make it clear that if the President won’t stand to protect America from wholesale open borders, then Republicans will,” Huckabee said.

“If Ryan will not lead and reject the importation of those fleeing the Middle East without assurances that we can separate refugees from terrorists, then Speaker Ryan needs to step down today and let someone else lead,” he continued in the release.

Huckabee isn’t the only Republican presidential candidate criticizing the Obama administration’s response to the terrorist group and demanding a shift in the U.S.’s national security strategy.

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is one of handful of governors who are not permitting Syrian refugees from entering their states.

Ryan on Monday asked the Obama administration for a classified lawmaker briefing.
