Read: Attorney General William Barr’s written testimony to the House Judiciary Committee

Attorney General William Barr is slated to testify before the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday for the first time.

The hearing is likely to be contentious, with Democrats demanding answers about his handling of high-level prosecutions of President Trump’s associates, pressing Barr about what they see as the politicization of the Department of Justice and grilling him about his recent role in the clearing of peaceful protesters outside the White House so that Trump could stage a photo-op in front of a historic church that was vandalized during earlier protests demonstrating against police brutality and the police killing of George Floyd.

In written testimony released Monday night, Barr comes out swinging, accusing Democrats of falsely seeking to paint him as a Trump loyalist, challenging them to denounce violence in Portland, Ore., and defending himself against what he calls attempts by Democrats to “discredit” him.
