Tennessee man charged with threatening to ‘shoot up’ DC Planned Parenthood

A Tennessee man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly posting threats online to “shoot up” a Planned Parenthood facility in Washington, D.C.

Jacob Cooper, 20, allegedly wrote in an Aug. 13 comment that he planned “to shoot up a planned parenthood facility in Washington D.C., on August 19th at 3pm,” the Department of Justice (DOJ) wrote in a release.

The FBI and U.S. attorneys in Washington and Nashville said in the release that Cooper appeared in court Wednesday on a charge of unlawfully transmitting a threat to injure.{mosads}

According to a criminal complaint, Cooper allegedly wrote in a separate Aug. 13 post, “If you are a member of the FBI, CIA, whatever, and are on my profile I will trace your IP address and kill you if the opportunity arises.”

“I am serious about this,” Cooper’s post continued, according to the DOJ. “If I am personally contacted by any federal agents, I will do this. I will kill you. Again, I am serious. Sic semper tyrannis.”

The post was made on iFunny, a site that allows users to upload memes, GIFs and statements, the DOJ said.

Cooper is charged with unlawfully, knowingly and intentionally using interstate or foreign communication to threaten to injure another individual. He has a preliminary detention hearing on Monday. If convicted, Cooper faces a maximum of five years in prison.

The FBI is investigating the case, the DOJ wrote.
