Matt Barnes slams ‘dumbass president’ for attacking LeBron James
Former NBA player Matt Barnes slammed President Trump on Monday for attacking LeBron James over the weekend on Twitter.
“It’s unfortunate that the leader of our country finds time to try to put people down like that,” Barnes told TMZ. “So, that’s why I thought it was so important for Michael Jordan to step up because Trump’s whole thing is to try to divide us and we need to show that we are all altogether united and we don’t f— with him.”
Barnes went on to say in the interview that its “frustrating” to see James, someone he said is “really making an effort to put people in schools,” get called “dumb” by the president.
{mosads}“For a dumbass president to come out and, you know, to try to call him dumb is crazy,” Barnes added.
His remarks come days after Trump jabbed James, a new Los Angeles Laker who recently opened a school in his home state of Ohio, and questioned his intelligence on Twitter Saturday, prompting immediate backlash and statements of support for the player.
Following James’s interview with CNN host Don Lemon, Trump tweeted: “Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon. He made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do.”
The president also voiced his support for former NBA player Michael Jordan in the tweet, saying: “I like Mike.” Jordan is often compared to James in the debate over which athlete is the greatest NBA player.
Jordan responded with words of support for James on Saturday, saying that the NBA star is “doing an amazing job for his community.”
