Trump praises Florence response: One of the wettest storms we’ve ever seen

President Trump on Tuesday released a video touting his administration’s response to Hurricane Florence.

In the video, recorded on the White House lawn, the president referred to Florence as a “tough” hurricane, saying it is one of the “wettest we’ve ever seen, from the standpoint of water.”

“I just want to thank all of the incredible men and women who have done such a great job in helping with Florence,” he said in the video. “This is a tough hurricane, one of the wettest we’ve ever seen, from the standpoint of water.”

Trump expressed sympathy for people in the affected areas, saying, “May God be with them and their families.”

He praised the Federal Emergency Management Agency, as well as the military, Coast Guard and law enforcement, saying, “What you’ve done in saving so many lives has been really something special.”

Trump ended the 80-second clip by urging affected Americans to remain alert as floodwaters continue to rise this week.

“Florence has been a nasty one, a big one,” he said. “The waters are still rising. Listen to your state and local authorities, be patient, be alert, and God bless you.”

The president is expected to visit North Carolina on Wednesday to view areas affected by Florence, which has been downgraded to a tropical depression since making landfall.
