Booker: ‘I love you, Donald Trump’

Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) on Tuesday declined to fire back at Donald Trump over a cryptic tweet, saying he was praying for the Republican presidential nominee.
“Let me break some news right now: I love Donald Trump — love his family, love his kids — and I’m not going to match hate with hate. I’m going to match it with love,” Booker said on “Fox and Friends.”
{mosads}”I don’t want him to be my president,” Booker continued, saying he would use Trump’s own words against the businessman.
“I’m not hating on him. I love you, Donald Trump. My point is, you should not be president when you talk to other Americans that way, people who have military service, people who have disabilities,” Booker added.
Booker invoked his faith when explaining why he wouldn’t fire back at Trump, who tweeted Monday: “If Cory Booker is the future of the Democratic Party, they have no future! I know more about Cory than he knows about himself.”
“My faith — I’m taught to love unconditionally,” Booker said Tuesday. “Jesus loved people who were sinners, loved people who did very bad things. So love is so important. And I’m not going to stop loving him.”
Booker also dismissed Trump’s tweet on CNN, saying Trump wanted people to speculate over something “sinister.”
“I don’t care. I love you, Donald. I pray for you,” he said. “I don’t want to answer his hate with hate; I’m going to answer it with love. I’m not going to answer his darkness with darkness. I love him. I know his kids, I know his family. They’re good — the children especially — good people.”
Booker went after Trump for questioning Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) war record and mocking remarks from a reporter with a disability on the heels of his speech at the Democratic National Convention on Monday night ripping the businessman.
“If you have a disability, to demean somebody, to mock them?” Booker asked on Fox.
“The way he talks about women — women on this network — it’s unacceptable,” Booker continued. “It’s unacceptable. You don’t want that in the White House.”
