Sessions says he won’t resign despite Trump criticism: report

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has reportedly made it clear to the Trump administration that he has no plans on stepping down despite increasing tension with President Trump.

According to a report by The Washington Post, Sessions’s chief of staff Jody Hunt told Trump’s chief of staff Reince Priebus that he does not intend on resigning. Priebus reportedly did not say whether Trump would fire Sessions if he didn’t step down.{mosads}

The report comes amid increasing attacks on Sessions by Trump.

Trump on Tuesday refused to say if he would fire Sessions, but said only that “time will tell” what fate awaits him. 

“I told you before, I’m very disappointed in my attorney general,” he said from the Rose Garden. “But we will see what happens. Time will tell, time will tell.”

On Monday, he described Sessions as “beleaguered,” and in an interview last week he repeated his disappointment that the attorney general had recused himself from the Justice Department’s investigation into Russian meddling in the presidential election.

Sessions recused himself from that probe after it was revealed that he did not disclose in his confirmation hearings meetings that he attended with Russia’s ambassador to the United States. 

According to reports Trump is considering replacing Sessions with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) or former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R).
