Comedian Dave Chappelle will be hosting a free block party in Dayton, Ohio, this weekend in the aftermath of a mass shooting that devastated the community earlier this month.

The block party will take place on Sunday in the Oregon District, a popular entertainment area in Dayton where nine people were killed when a gunman opened fire.

{mosads}Although the event is free to the public it is restricted to Dayton-area residents, a Ticketmaster registration page for the event states. “You will not be able to redeem tickets, even if you receive a code, unless you are a legal resident of Dayton, OH area,” the page reads.

The official Facebook event page for the “Gem City Shine” block party, which gets its name from the city’s nickname, said the evening will be to “honor the lives lost and to reclaim the community’s favorite places to shop, dine and enjoy time with family and friends.”

“There will be several ways for attendees to contribute to both The Dayton Foundation’s Oregon District Tragedy Fund and Oregon District Business Association, which is assisting local businesses with recovery,” the event page added in its description.

The event will also be giving guests free commemorative t-shirts for a “minimum donation of $20” that will go toward proceeds benefiting the tragedy fund at the Dayton Foundation,” its page states.

Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley (D) also tweeted about the event on Wednesday, urging residents to register for their free tickets and others donate to the Oregon District Tragedy Fund.
