McCarthy calls for House Intel memo’s release to the public

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) in a Sunday show interview said a classified memo from the House Intelligence Committee should be made public.

“Having read this memo, I think it would be appropriate that the public has full view of it,” McCarthy told NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

{mosads}The memo, compiled by Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) and his staff, reportedly includes information about the probe into Russia’s election interference and any potential ties between President Trump’s campaign staff members and the Kremlin.

Republicans who have viewed the memo claim it includes evidence of law enforcement officials abusing surveillance powers.

McCarthy during the interview on Sunday pushed back on the notion that releasing the memo would amount to Trump tampering with the Russia investigation.

“It has nothing to do with the president right now. It is the committee doing their work,” McCarthy said.

The House Intelligence Committee voted along party lines earlier this month to allow all House members access to the document.
