A teacher who fired a gun inside a Georgia high school after barricading himself in his classroom has been sent to prison for two years.

Jesse Randal Davidson, 53, was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to multiple charges including criminal property damage, The Associated Press reported, citing local outlets.

He will be on probation for eight years after leaving prison, the news service added.

Davidson forced an evacuation of the school earlier this year, according to students, when he barricaded himself in his classroom and fired a gun. His motive for the act was not immediately clear.

Chondi Chastain, a 16-year-old student at Dalton High School, located in northwest Georgia, tweeted at the National Rifle Association after the incident, “daring” them to argue afterwards that President Trump’s plan to train and arm teachers would make schools safer.

“My favorite teacher at Dalton high school just blockaded his door and proceeded to shoot,” she wrote.

“We had to run out The back of the school in the rain. Students were being trampled and screaming. I dare you to tell me arming teachers will make us safe.”

No one was injured in the shooting, and a police spokesman later said that it didn’t appear as if Davidson was aiming at anyone when he fired the shot.

“I was really scared and left my stuff. I tripped over a chair on my way out and thought I would be trampled, but someone helped me up,” Chastain said, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Trump has called for the government to support training for teachers to be armed as a response to several mass shootings targeting schools around the country.

In February, a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglass High School in Parkland, Fla., ignited a national campaign against gun violence called the “March For Our Lives.”
