Bloomberg scraps annual correspondents’ dinner soiree

Check another news organization off the list of outlets hosting parties for the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) dinner.

Bloomberg announced Friday it is pulling the plug on its annual soiree.

“We surveyed some of the past attendees and didn’t get as much interest in a party this year as we’ve had in the past, so we decided to focus on the dinner and the WHCA,” a Bloomberg spokesperson told ITK. 

Axios was first to report the news of the party’s cancellation. Bloomberg still plans to send representatives to the dinner itself.

{mosads}Bloomberg traditionally hosts an exclusive affair immediately following the dinner, with tickets to the party considered a hot commodity even among Washington’s uber VIPs. 

Bloomberg’s shindig is the latest party getting the heave-ho this year amid President Trump’s volatile, often hostile relationship with the press. 

Earlier this month, both Vanity Fair and the New Yorker announced they were abandoning plans for their parties the night of the April 29 dinner. Vanity Fair’s editor, Graydon Carter, told The New York Times the reasons behind the cancellation were “Trump” and “the fish.”

CNN is also said to be considering skipping the correspondents’ dinner, according to a Friday report from BuzzFeed News. 

“We haven’t made a decision,” Matt Dornic, CNN’s vice president of communications, told ITK on Friday.
