Ellison responds to Trump tweet: ‘We’ll stop your drive to divide us’

Rep. Keith Ellison said Wednesday that Americans will resist President Trump’s efforts to divide the country after Trump said on Twitter that the Minnesota Democrat predicted he would win early.

“.@realdonaldtrump, my latest call?” Ellison tweeted.

“America is coming together like never before; we’ll stop your drive to divide us. #libertyjustice4all”
Ellison was responding to a tweet in which Trump praised Ellison, one of two leading candidates to chair the Democratic National Committee.

“One thing I will say about Rep. Keith Ellison, in his fight to lead the DNC, is that he was the one who predicted early that I would win!” Trump tweeted.

Trump was likely referring to a clip of Ellison from July 2015, when Ellison predicted Trump might win the Republican nomination.

“Anybody from the Democratic side of the fence who thinks, who is terrified of the possibility of President Trump — better vote, better get active, better get involved because this man has got some momentum, and we better be ready for the fact that he may be leading the Republican ticket,” Ellison says in an interview on ABC’s “This Week.”

“I know you don’t believe that,” Stephanopoulos responded.

“Stranger things have happened,” Ellison tells the incredulous panel.

Ellison holds a slight edge over former Labor Secretary Tom Perez in the race for DNC chair, according to The Hill’s survey of DNC members. Democrats will vote this weekend on the party’s next chair.
