Spicer interviewing replacements for press secretary role: report

White House press secretary Sean Spicer could be moving into a different role within the White House, according to new reports.

Politico reports that Spicer is leading a search for his own replacement as press secretary, according to two sources. Spicer and White House chief of staff Reince Priebus reached out to Fox News contributor and conservative radio host Laura Ingraham regarding her interest in the press secretary position, as well as Daily Mail editor David Martosko for the role of communications director, according to the report. 

Ingraham was once considered for the press secretary role during Trump’s transition, but the president ultimately selected Spicer. 

“We have sought input from many people as we look to expand our communications operation. As he did in the beginning, Sean Spicer is managing both the communications and press office,” the White House told Fox News.

{mosads}The report comes on the heels of a Bloomberg News report that Spicer is looking to move into a more senior role in the Trump administration focusing on strategy. 

Spicer’s relationship with the White House press corps has been contentious since he assumed the role. He faced a fresh round of criticism from journalists on Monday after the White House held an off-camera briefing and told the press it could not film or broadcast audio.

“The White House press secretary is getting to a point where he’s just kind of useless,” CNN’s White House reporter Jim Acosta said after the briefing. “If they’re getting to this point where he’s not going to answer questions or go on camera or have audio, why are we even having these briefings or gaggles in the first place?”
