Teen says he was harassed for wearing MAGA hat

An Illinois teenager visiting Seattle said he was harassed for wearing one of President Trump’s “Make America Great Again” hats.

Ashton Hess, 17, was on a summer vacation to Washington state with his family when someone knocked his hat off his head, KIRO Radio reported Friday.

“This guy just runs up and hits me in the head, knocking my hat off … he took off down the street with it, spit on it and threw it in the street, and he turned around and started cursing at me for no reason,” Hess told the station.

Hess wrote that he and his family were waiting for a ride outside of the Starbucks Reserve Roastery when the incident occurred. He posted a video to YouTube.

He said the attack was unprovoked.

“Yes, I know what it says,” Hess tells two people in the video after his hat was reportedly knocked to the ground. “That’s my property, dude, come on.”

“Get the f— out of this city,” another person yells. “You’re not welcome here.”

“That’s really necessary. I didn’t do anything to you,” Hess responds as the two people walk away.

What looks like spit is visible on the red hat when Hess picks it up off the ground.

Hess told KIRO Radio that he knew Seattle was a liberal city but never expected to be harassed for showing support for Trump.

“I just want to show what I support without being bugged about it,” he said.

Hess said he documented the incident because he wanted people to see what happened.

“I want to expose the left for what they do … We have a First Amendment right to believe in whatever we want, and when that stuff gets out about the left side doing things like that, I do think it hurts them more than it helps them,” Hess told the radio station.

The incident follows several other events involving “MAGA” hats, including a Texas teen whose hat was stolen from him and replaced by Trump.
