Bernie Sanders got into a heated back-and-forth with two California radio hosts Thursday when they questioned him about his public service.

{mosads}Sanders called out the hosts of the “John and Ken” show on KFI radio for interrupting him several times before abruptly ending the interview.

The interview, first reported by Buzzfeed, began with one of the hosts quizzing Sanders on his experience with creating jobs.

“I’m not really clear on what kind of jobs you’ve had, besides Senator,” the host said.

Sanders responded that he served in the House and was mayor of Burlington, Vt., for eight years.

“Yeah, but have you ever not been paid by taxpayers?” the host asked.

“All right, look, if you don’t like government, my friend, that’s fine. I’m proud of the record I’ve established as a mayor, making Burlington, Vermont, one of the more beautiful small cities in America, proud of my record in the House, proud of my record in the United States Senate. You don’t like government? That’s your point of view. I am proud of what I have accomplished,” Sanders responded in the interview.

The hosts then shifted to asking Sanders a convoluted question about the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

“All right, let me ask you about that because obviously your proposals expand government a lot, cost a lot of money, when it comes to free healthcare, free college educations, when we look at the government and we see the VA feeding cockroaches to veterans in Chicago. … What is it that you see about the government that we don’t between let’s say the TSA and VA for example?”

When Sanders began to respond, saying there are issues with healthcare in private settings as well, the hosts interrupted to say he wasn’t answering their question properly.

“Wait a minute, you know, you invited me on the program. And I’m happy to be on the program. And I’d like to answer your questions, but I have to respond,” Sanders said, before saying the U.S. should offer healthcare to all people and that he doesn’t believe the VA should privatize its health care.

Sanders then said he had to “run” but offered to continue the interview another time.
