Exclusive: Gingrich returning to Fox News on Aug. 1

Greg Nash

The Hill has learned that Newt Gingrich will be returning to Fox News as a contributor.

The network suspended its contributor agreement with the former House Speaker on July 12 to avoid a conflict of interest after he was reported to be on Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s vice presidential shortlist.

{mosads}Trump chose Gov. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) to be his running mate instead on July 16.

Since the suspension, Gingrich has appeared on other networks but will go back to being exclusive to Fox News starting on Monday, Aug. 1, according to a source close to the situation.

The 73-year-old former Republican congressman, who represented Georgia, joined CNN after his presidential bid in 2012 fell short against Mitt Romney.

He was a political commentator for CNN before jumping to Fox News in October 2015.

The Hill has reached out to Fox News for comment.
