DC mayor: Congress ‘a problem’ for District residents
Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) said on Sunday that Congress sometimes presented an obstacle to successfully running her city.
{mosads}“It’s a problem for the people of Washington,” Bowser told host Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday.”
“Our budget house is in order,” she said. “Our ethical house is in order.”
“We can take care of our business,” Bowser added.
Bowser additionally said she did not expect the recent racial tensions in nearby Baltimore to spread into the District.
“We are very proud of the police and community relations we have built in the last decade in the District of Columbia,” she said.
Despite this, the mayor also acknowledged some disparity between haves and have-nots.
“I think in some ways,” she responded when Wallace asked if she saw Washington, D.C. as two cities due to income inequality.
Bowser took office last January.
A D.C. native, she added that she was proud of serving her hometown as its eighth mayor.
“I’ve been in office just under 120 days,” she said.
“I’m excited every day about what’s before us,” Bowser added.
