Maher blames Bill Clinton for Comey’s dismissal

Bill Maher made the argument on HBO’s “Real Time” that “a lot of” the reason behind James Comey’s firing by President Trump on Tuesday was “because of Bill Clinton.”

Maher referenced the infamous meeting on a Phoenix tarmac in June of 2016 between the former president and Obama Attorney General Loretta Lynch. The meeting occurred just days before Comey announced his decision not to indict Hillary Clinton over her handling State Department emails on a private server.

“Bill Clinton, once again, f***d up his wife’s life. If Bill Clinton hadn’t walked on Loretta Lynch’s plane, then she would have been making the statement instead of Comey,” said Maher on Friday night.

Clinton and Lynch said at the time that the meeting was only by happenstance and they spoke about “golf and their grandchildren.”

“That’s where we are: Bill Clinton. Let’s put the blame where it belongs,” added Maher.

Trump told NBC’s Lester Holt this week that Comey had “a lot of pressure put on and exonerated [Clinton]. He should have never exonerated her.”

Comey’s handling of the Clinton investigation is one of the reasons cited by the administration for ousting Comey.

Maher still slammed Trump for firing Comey, whom the host characterized as a “Boy Scout.”

“The main reason they said Comey had to go, it had nothing to do with Russia, it was all over how unfair he was to Hillary,” Maher said incredulously. “This would insult Sarah Palin’s intelligence.”
