Susan Sarandon arrested at #WomenDisobey immigration protest in DC

Actress Susan Sarandon was one of hundreds of women arrested on Thursday during a sit-in at the Hart Senate building in Washington, D.C., to protest President Trump’s immigration policies. 

She shared the news on Twitter:

Sarandon’s representative, Teal Cannaday, elaborated on the arrest with a statement from the actress provided to USA Today on Friday.

{mosads}”I was moved by the passionate, committed response to ending the separation of families seeking asylum and the incarceration of children,” Sarandon’s statement read. “This is a moral, not political question and I’m proud to have stood with the hundreds of women to say that we do not accept this. Unite families and abolish ICE.”

Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) and more than 500 other protesters were also arrested during the #WomenDisobey march. 

The crowds, compromised of mostly women, were organized by the Women’s March to fight against Trump’s “zero tolerance” immigration policy that resulted in the separation of thousands of migrant children from their parents.

Trump signed an executive order earlier this month to end the practice, but protests against Trump and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are still spreading across the country since hundreds of migrant families haven’t been reunited and the “zero tolerance” prosecution of those who cross the border illegally remains in place.

Larger “Families Belong Together” marches are planned for Saturday in D.C. and all 50 states.
