Clinton camp worried Trump will pull out of future debates
Hillary Clinton’s Democratic presidential campaign says it’s worried Donald Trump may try to pull out of the remaining presidential debates, the morning after the two nominees squared off in the first debate of 2016.
“We’re very worried his campaign will be meeting tomorrow and say, ‘What’s a way we can get out of these last two debates?'” John Podesta, Clinton’s campaign chairman, told NBC News on Tuesday.
In a brief interview with Vice News Monday night, Trump said he will “100 percent” participate in the remaining debates.
{mosads}Rudy Giuliani, a former New York City mayor and a close Trump adviser, on Monday night floated the idea of the Republican nominee skipping future debates, pinning the blame on NBC’s Lester Holt, who moderated the first debate, for fact-checking Trump.
“After Candy Crowley, I thought we saw the last of it,” Giuliani said Tuesday on “Fox and Friends,” referring to the CNN moderator who famously fact-checked Mitt Romney during a 2012 debate.
Giuliani accused Holt of being “dead wrong” when he corrected Trump to say that the controversial stop-and-frisk police tactic was found unconstitutional. A U.S. district court judge offered that ruling in August 2013.
Trump and Clinton are scheduled to meet again Oct. 9 in St. Louis and Oct. 19 in Las Vegas.
