Betty White says she’s celebrating her 99th birthday in quarantine this weekend

Actress Betty White said she will be celebrating her upcoming birthday quarantine-style this weekend as the nation continues to grapple with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight released this week, White, who is set to turn 99 on Sunday, acknowledged how the pandemic has affected her way of life, like millions of other Americans, as public health experts continue to urge citizens to practice social distancing to curb the spread of the disease.

“Running a mile each morning has been curtailed by COVID,” she told the outlet. So, she said, this week she plans on feeding the two ducks she says “come to visit [her] every day” and work on “getting The Pet Set rereleased.”

White hosted “The Pet Set” in the 1970s. In the show, the star would invite guests to discuss their love of their animals. The show, which was also produced by Allen Ludden, her late husband, included appearances from a number of celebrity guests including Carol Burnett, Mary Tyler Moore, Doris Day, James Stewart and Burt Reynolds. It is set to be rereleased in late February.

In a press release detailing the program’s scheduled digital debut, White called it “one of [her] favorite shows” and said she was “thrilled it’s going to be seen again after all these years.” 

Despite the ongoing pandemic, the “Golden Girls” actress has also been said to be faring well in recent months.

Last year a spokesperson for the 98-year-old star said she has been practicing social distancing and joked that she has a family of ducks that have been working to guard her in her backyard. 

“The animal community is watching over her,” the spokesperson said in May. “The virus is afraid of Betty!”
