John Kasich pitches soon to be shuttered Ohio GM plant to Elon Musk: ‘Call me’

Outgoing Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) is making a pitch to Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk to use an impending shut down GM plant to build his cars.

Kasich tweeted at Musk Tuesday, telling him to “call me.”

Kasich said to Musk that “There are no better workers than Ohio workers. And Lordstown is ready for you.”

GM announced last month that it will be closing down several plants in the U.S., including one in Lordstown, Ohio.{mosads}

The closure of the GM factory in Ohio would result in the loss of thousand of jobs.

In Kasich’s tweet, he included video of Musk saying on CBS’s “60 Minutes” that he would consider buying some of the plants that GM is planning to close.

“It’s possible that we would be interested if they were going to sell a plant or not use it that we would take it over,” Musk said.

Musk stepped down as chairman of Tesla in September but will remain as CEO. 

Kasich has branded himself as a business friendly governor during his tenure running Ohio, often pitching for massive companies to invest in the state, including Amazon’s HQ2 and FoxConn’s multi-billion dollar U.S. factory.

Both of Ohio’s senators, Republican Rob Portman and Democrat Sherrod Brown, have met with GM’s CEO Mary Barra in an effort to save the plant.

President Trump blasted GM’s decision close the plant in Ohio, saying the company should stop making cars in China and “better get back in” in Ohio “soon.”
