Reid to GOP: ‘You get rid of ObamaCare, people are going to die’

Outgoing Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid issued a warning to congressional Republicans this week: People will die if you repeal ObamaCare.

The Nevada Democrat said that he doesn’t think the GOP has the “nerve” to roll back the new healthcare system.

“They don’t have enough nerve to repeal ObamaCare. And if they do, they are just a lot more visionless than I can imagine,” Reid said in an interview with The Huffington Post.

{mosads}Republican leaders have said they will repeal Obamacare within the first 100 days of Donald Trump’s presidency but leave benefits in place for a few years while they design a replacement.

However, ObamaCare supporters and experts argue that repealing the law could destabilize the market and cause insurers to flee, leaving consumers without options for health insurance.

Reid said he doesn’t think Republicans will mind a collapse in the marketplace because they think it would pressure Democrats to cooperate in creating a replacement.

“Can you think of — maybe there is something more cold and calculated and mean-spirited than that: ‘Let’s have a few people die.’ Because that’s what’ll happen. You get rid of Obamacare, people are going to die,” he said.
