Texas Dem who went into labor at protest against family separation policy wins election

A Democratic candidate in Texas who won national attention when she went into labor while protesting the Trump administration’s family separation policy at the border won her election to a state House seat Tuesday night.

The 33-year-old Democrat, Erin Zwiener, defeated Republican Ken Strange. Zwiender, a children’s book author and first-time candidate, won 51 percent of the vote. She is the first Democrat to represent the district since 2010.

{mosads}According to reports, Zwiener campaigned throughout her pregnancy, and continued even while at the hospital to give birth.

Zwiener met three potential voters at the hospital, and crafted a fundraising email after her epidural, according to Time correspondent Charlotte Alter.
