‘SNL’ imagines Trump Jr.-Assange meeting in ‘The Mueller Files’

NBC/SNL

“Saturday Night Live” imagined what a meeting between Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange might have looked like in this week’s opening skit, titled “The Mueller Files.”

SNL’s Kate McKinnon portrayed Assange, meeting Trump Jr., played by Mikey Day, in the parking garage beneath the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, ahead of the 2016 election.

“As secure and off the record as sliding into my Twitter DMs is, I thought this would be safer,” SNL’s Trump Jr. says, walking up to Assange.

“Let’s get down to business. Mr. Assange, there’s something we’ve been wanting for a long time,” he continues. “We want dirt on Hillary.” {mosads}

“Well you’re in luck,” McKinnon’s Assange responds. “I have some information about Hillary Clinton that might be quite useful to your father’s campaign. How does a treasure trove of hacked [Democratic National Committee] emails sound?”

Assange tells Trump Jr. to keep the files in a safe place, which Trump Jr. responds to by storing the files in a “Minions” backpack belonging to Eric Trump, played by Alex Moffat.

The skit follows the revelation that Trump Jr. communicated with WikiLeaks over Twitter ahead of the election.

Trump Jr. has given his private Twitter correspondences with WikiLeaks over to lawmakers investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election. Some of those correspondences leaked to The Atlantic on Monday, so Trump Jr. released them on Twitter.
