Pentagon identifies Army soldier killed in Afghanistan

The Pentagon on Friday announced that a 19-year-old Army soldier from Pennsylvania was killed in a “non-combat related incident” in Afghanistan. 

Pfc. Joshua Mikeasky, from Johnstown, was killed Thursday at Bagram Airfield, Parwan Province, in eastern Afghanistan, according to a statement from Resolute Support, the mission led by NATO.

{mosads}The Pentagon offered no further details. The incident is under investigation.

Mikeasky was supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel, the U.S.-led mission to train and advise Afghan security forces.

He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division in Fort Drum, N.Y.

Resolute Support said late Thursday night that Mikeasky had died but did not identify him by name at the time.

He is the 15th U.S. service member to die in Afghanistan this year.
