Ex-Swedish PM: Trump needs sources ‘beyond Fox News’

A former prime minister of Sweden is hitting back at President Trump for referencing a nonexistent incident of terrorism in Sweden and then citing a Fox News story to explain the claim.

“That he blames it on Fox News, well, we expect the president of the United States to have sources of information that goes beyond Fox News,” former Swedish prime minister Carl Bildt said Monday on CNN.

During a rally Saturday, Trump referred to what happened “last night” in Sweden to defend his travel ban.

{mosads}“When you look at what’s happening in Germany, when you look at what’s happening last night in Sweden — Sweden!” he said during the rally.

“Who would believe this? Sweden! They took in large numbers, they’re having problems like they never thought possible.”

He later clarified his comments, confirming speculation that a Fox News story about immigration and crime rates that aired on Tucker Carlson’s show was the source of his statement.

“My statement as to what’s happening in Sweden was in reference to a story that was broadcast on @FoxNews concerning immigrants & Sweden,” the president tweeted.

Bildt also questioned the president’s claims on Twitter.

“Sweden? Terror attack? What has he been smoking? Questions abound,” he tweeted.
