McMaster to reporters: ‘This is the last place in the world I wanted to be’

H.R. McMaster, President Trump’s national security adviser, reportedly made a quick turnaround after accidentally running into reporters at the White House, according to reports on Twitter. 

McMaster’s run-in with the press came shortly after the Washington Post broke news that Trump revealed highly classified information about the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) to top Russian diplomats last week.

{mosads}A U.S. official with knowledge of the meeting told the Post that Trump “revealed more information to the Russian ambassador than we have shared with our own allies.”

McMaster encountered reporters waiting outside of White House press secretary Sean Spicer’s office on Monday evening, as they were attempting to confirm the Post’s story, according to reports.

“This is the last place in the world I wanted to be!” he reportedly said, looking surprised to encounter the gaggle. He did not answer questions, and and made a quick exit.

Trump met with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in the Oval Office last week.

McMaster, who participated in the meeting, released a statement Monday night denying that any classified information was disclosed. 

“The president and the foreign minister reviewed common threats from terrorist organizations to include threats to aviation,” the security head said. “At no time were any intelligence sources or methods discussed and no military operations were disclosed that were not already known publicly.”

He later appeared on camera and said the report was false.
