Man charged with hate crime after tirade at black woman is caught on video: report

A Long Island Rail Road passenger was arrested after he was seen on video shouting racial slurs at a black woman on the train, according to a local NBC News affiliate.

Edward Ruggiero has been charged with a hate crime and second-degree aggravated harassment for the verbal attack on a fellow passenger during an April train ride.

“The bigotry and hatred that the defendant is accused of manifesting and acting upon have no place in a civilized society — especially in Queens County, the most culturally diverse county in the nation,” Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said in a statement to the New York Post on Thursday.

“No one should be subjected to the vile words and intimidating actions the defendant is accused of tormenting the victim with,” Brown continued. “Crimes of hate will never be tolerated here and when they do, regrettably occur, those responsible will be brought to justice.”

The widely seen video shows Ruggiero verbally attacking a fellow passenger who he says was talking too loudly. When another woman came to the victim’s defense, Ruggiero launched into a racially charged tirade. 

“Shut the f— up, you f—-ing loudmouthed monkey motherf—er,” Ruggiero screamed.

“I can’t listen to your f—ing black ass no more. … You f—ing loudmouthed bitch. … At least I got a f—ing mother. Do you know who your mother is? You don’t know who your mother or your father is because you’re a f—ing monkey, that’s why,” he continued.

Ruggiero was held pending arraignment in Queens Criminal Court, according to the paper.
